Dandia Night Red & White 2005

This charity event, which was co-ordinated by Deafblind UK, was Leicester’s biggest themed cultural night and was a huge success in creating awareness amongst the Asian community. The charity’s aim is to assist thousands of deafblind or dual sensory impaired people to cope with their disability and lead independent and fulfilled lives. The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Safety Camera Scheme supported and attended the event to talk members of the vast Asian community present in the county.
Also present was world land-speed record holder, Graham Hicks, to help promote and raise awareness of the work of Deafblind UK. Graham is both deaf and blind. It just goes to show that under controlled conditions driving fast isn’t so dangerous, but out on public roads, you can’t control what may happen and the consequences could be fatal.
The event was extremely useful in providing a channel for talking to the Asian community about the work of the Scheme. As a result, collaboration has been planned with the charity in February 2006.
