Cameras Address Community Speed Concerns
Friday, November 16th, 2007The Safety Camera Scheme will be conducting a campaign of targeted enforcement at ‘exceptional’ sites from Monday 19 November 2007.
The mobile camera vans will be focussing on exceptional sites where covert speed surveys demonstrate there is a serious speeding issue. These are sites that have been investigated in response to concerns raised by members of the local community in addition to core sites that have been formally established and permanently sign-posted.
The Scheme has conducted over 100 speed surveys so far this year and nearly 150 in 2006. The survey data provide the Safety Camera Scheme and the Police with vital information to tackle speeding and collisions in the right places. When a camera van visits an exceptional site, the officer erects temporary speed camera signs to alert motorists that enforcement is being conducted to remind them to keep within the limit.
